Am 3. April 2024 würde Marlon Brando 100 Jahre alt werden.
Wie kein anderer verschaffte er einer neuen Schauspieltechnik weltweit Beachtung und prägte einen komplett neuen Stil der Darstellung, der Hollywood nachhaltig veränderte und Generationen von Schauspieler:innen nach ihm beeinflusste.
Er war siebenmal in der Kategorie Bester Hauptdarsteller und einmal als Bester Nebendarsteller für den Oscar nominiert, zweimal (1955 und 1973) gewann er ihn in der Kategorie Bester Hauptdarsteller.
Anlässlich seines Geburtstages zeigen wir fünf von Brandos großen Filmen, darunter mit ONE-EYED JACKS den einzigen Film, bei dem er auch selbst Regie führte.
He was innately brilliant but it was all scattered, almost as if he’d been told early on that he was nothing and worthless. Yet his work was so beautiful and so pure that there was no explaining where it came from. He still didn’t love acting, he didn’t love the theater and he didn’t respect his own talent, but his gift was so great he couldn’t defile it. He could put on pounds, he could say that it was all shit, but he still couldn’t destroy it.
